Effect of Amoxicillin with Clavulanic Acid Antibiotic Premedication on Pre-Treatment and Post-Endodontic Pain in Teeth with Irreversible Pulpitis: A Randomized. Controlled Trial (MADOHC) - Lupine Publishers

Abstract: The purpose of this randomized, double-blind, controlled study was to assess the effect of antibiotic premedication on pre treatment and post opertive pain after endodontic treatment. Forty two patients with symptomatic irreversible pulpitis were randomized and allocated to experimental and placebo groups where the experimental group received the antibiotic premedication. Degree of pain was measured by the number of analgesics needed in addition to a four step pain scale before initiation of endodontic treatment and at time intervals of 6, 12, 24, 48 and 96 hours. We found that no statistical significant difference was detected at the pre-treatment time interval. Statistical significant difference was groups after 24 hours of endodontic treatment where the experimental group reported less degree of post operative pain than the placebo group. No statistical significance difference detected at other time intervals. we concluded that antibiotic pre-medication could be prescribed to lessen the degree of post operative. pain after endodontic treatment.

Introduction: The development of bio materials for bone tissue replacements in dentistry has attracted a lot of interest among professionals due to the rise in the number of patients requiring bone replacements 1. The bony craters and other defects in the bony architecture like insufficient ridge height for proper placement of implants may be managed by suitable substitutes to make up for the lost structures. During teaching and training programme, each student or trainee should be given a cadaver model on which a dummy bone graft materials should be used for practice before actually performing surgery on patients. Egg-shells has been thought of as the material of choice in terms of the fact that it is made up of calcium carbonate and easily procurable. The particles from the egg-shells could serve the purpose of a dummy graft material which can be used by learners on animal cadaver models in hands-on-training [1,2].

An Insight into Oral Leukoplakia (MADOHC) - Lupine Publishers

Abstract: Oral leukoplakia (OL) clinically appears as either white or red and white non-scrapable lesion is the most common potentially malignant disorder of the oral mucosa. Diagnosis of OL can be ruled out if an etiologic factor for the whitish plaque can be established, except in the case of smoking. Infections by Candida, human papillomavirus (HPV) and more recently Epstein Barr virus (EBV) have been identified as co-factors that may affect the prognosis of established OL. It is often found among men, and its prevalence increases with age advancement. It has been estimated that it mainly affects men over 40 years. The management of this common condition includes local, topical, and systemic therapies such as anti-oxidants, carotenoids, and anti-fungal therapies.
